‘Tis sad times in DC

So tense has the presidential election campaign been that extra caution is being taken around the White House, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (formerly called the Old Executive Office building), the Treasury Building, and others. Eighteen-feet-tall riot fences are being erected, and secure areas are being expanded. In addition, the owners of nearby buildings are boarding up their street-level windows.

Why? Because, no matter who wins, the losing side will not be happy. The polls show the two major candidates pretty well tied. In DC, no candidate that was not a Democrat has been elected since DC residents obtained the right to vote in federal elections. Fear is that, if the Republican candidate wins, another January 6th-type event could break out.

Quel nightmare!

One might ask, “Why can’t the people practice good sportsmanship, accept the election results for what they are, remember that there will be another election in four years, and go watch a good movie?”

That is a good question that has a very immature answer: because, “Someone stole my soccer ball, so I’m gonna go after him and give him a black eye.” To which I say, “Oh, grow up! Act your age! You’re not children, anymore.”

Even the Holy Bible tells us to act our age:

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought

as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
